I hope you know you’re beautiful.

That’s right. You. The person who thinks they’re overweight. Or maybe that person who thinks they’re too tall. Maybe you don’t like your eyes, your hair, or maybe it’s so bad you don’t even like your ears. But you know what? No matter what, no matter what bad things anyone says, what bad things you want to think, please know you’re beautiful. Maybe you’re a guy with self esteem issues. Well, you’re handsome, and don’t let anyone ever tell you otherwise.

I say this because I know how bad self esteem issues can affect people. My mother is 6’2 thanks to a medical condition she had, and it’s bothered her since she was a kid. She was never happy with herself, being tall, too overweight, anything. People used to pick on her for it. She tried to overcome it, but in the end when she couldn’t take it, she ran to the only thing she could think of - drugs. Because she wasn’t happy with who she was, she lost herself in drugs. She became involved with the police and ruined her life. All because she didn’t like how she looked.

Because of this, I’m adopted. My younger sister has medical issues because my mother did drugs while pregnant with her. My mother, without wanting to, has ruined more lives than just her own. Because she couldn’t stand what was in the mirror. Because everyone else was too heartless to see she really had self esteem issues, and they were too blind to see who she really was.

So please, don’t ever let anyone tell you that you’re not beautiful. That you’re not handsome. That you’re weird because you’re tall, or that you should starve yourself because you’re too fat. That your personality is ugly. That you’re a failure. Don’t run to drugs, alcohol, or anything else because you feel alone, and that no one loves you. You are amazing, and someone out there knows it. Someone out there loves you for YOU. Because you are better than all the people who talked you down. Because you will rise above them, and in reality, THEY are the ugly ones. They only talk down to make up for their own flaws.

There’s nothing wrong with wishing to be a bit taller, or maybe even shorter. Maybe you have a goal to lose a bit of weight. That’s okay. But don’t let it take over your life. Don’t try to be something you’re not. Don’t let you tell yourself you’re ugly, or that your personality is bad. You are loved, beautiful, handsome, and amazing.
